As national development bank BNDES scaled back its commitment to certain sectors of infrastructure this year, Brazilian project finance shifted gears. Lenders shopped local currency opportunities to international investors and developers navigated a climate still raw from the Odebrecht bribery saga. Itaú BBA wrapped up a bunch of deals throughout this awards period, some of which have been acknowledged as LatinFinance’s Project and Infrastructure Finance award winners. The bank placed first in lending and as a lead arranger on project and infrastructure non- or limited-recourse financing in Brazil for 2017, according to capital markets association Anbima.
