When you combine the gross domestic outputs of Peru, Mexico, Colombia and Chile, the four Pacific Alliance countries rank number eight among the world’s largest economies. But we still have a way to go to improve the economic integration and, as a group, play an even bigger role in the global economy.
We have already achieved a level of integration in such sectors as agroindustry, textile and light manufacturing. But we need to identify other areas where we have developed an expertise that could have a global appeal. For instance, in Peru we have done extensive research in biodiversity in the Amazon. Another big potential sector for us in the next 20 years is agroforesty.
