The election of Donald Trump as president of the United States and a seesawing exchange rate presented some challenges for Mexico earlier this year. But the country’s financial sector proved robust, with BBVA Bancomer shining above its peers in 2017.
Present in many banking segments, BBVA Bancomer turned to its strengths to record 19.9 billion Mexican pesos ($1.03 billion) in net income in the second quarter this year, a 10% increase on the same period last year. BBVA Bancomer’s double-digit earnings growth make it the winner of the award for Bank of the Year in Mexico.
