Argentina intervenes in Edesur

Economy & Policy M&A Electricity Argentina Italy

Argentina's government said Tuesday it is intervening in Edesur, a leading power distribution company in Buenos Aires, after a spate of blackouts, a move that comes as Italy's Enel seeks a buyer for the asset to pull out of the country. The national electricity regulator, ENRE, will oversee the company for six months, according to a government resolution. The decision comes after a series of power outages since mid-February left 180,000 people without electricity within Edesur's concession area.
