Sergio Massa took over as Argentina’s economy minister late on Wednesday with the same challenges of his two predecessors in the left-leaning Peronist government: cut the fiscal deficit and high inflation, rekindle investor confidence, rebuild flagging foreign reserves and keep social tension at bay.
The question is whether he can do it.
The financial markets reacted positively at first, with bonds and stocks gaining early on Thursday. But then they dropped later in the session.
