Henrique Meirelles, former finance minister and head of the central bank in Brazil, has hailed a decision by the Federal Supreme Court, or STF, to uphold a law that grants autonomy to the central bank, saying it puts the country "on par with the most relevant economies in the world."
The STF ruled that the law was constitutional by eight votes to two on Thursday after Congress passed the bill in February.
