US low-cost airline Allegiant Air has acquired a stake in Mexican budget carrier Viva Aerobus for $50 million and signed a commercial agreement to offer non-stop routes between the two countries, the airlines said in a joint press release on Wednesday. Allegiant did not disclose the size of the stake it had agreed to buy in Viva Aerobus, but a company source said the US airline had no plans to partner with other Mexican carriers in 2022.
