Argentina's textiles and apparel industry sees little benefit from a free-trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union (EU), arguing that clothing retailers will not have enough time to adapt to an expected avalanche of European imports.
"For the textiles industry, this is not beneficial," Alicia Hernández, head of the local lobbying group CIAI, told LatinFinance. Argentina's manufacturers do not stand to gain from a rise in exports through the trade agreement, she added.
Local clothing retailers could be overwhelmed by a flood of European imports, lobbying group says
