Venezuela's opposition has hired Lee Buchheit to advise on restructuring more than $150bn in debt, according to press reports.
Buchheit, a former partner at the US law firm Cleary Gottlieb, co-authored a paper last year on how to restructure Venezuela's debt with Duke University professor Mitu Gulati.
In the paper, the authors say any holdout creditors in restructuring Venezuelan sovereign debt "present a serious, potentially a debilitating, legal risk.
