Ecuador is discussing a "financial arrangement" with the IMF, the multilateral lender said in a statement.
"In this context, an IMF team is currently in Quito to continue this dialogue and identify how the IMF can best support the government’s home-grown policy plan," the IMF's chief spokesperson Gerry Rice said.
The Ecuadorean government has said it could seek at least $1.5bn in financing from the IMF to go along with $1.75bn in bond sales this year.
