Sempra snaps up Chilean power provider

Sempra Energy, through subsidiary Chilquinta Energia, has agreed to buy Compania Transmisora del Norte Grande from AES Gener for $220m. Chilean AES Gener, an affiliate of US power company AES Corp., said the sale was in line with its new strategy to concentrate on principal assets. Proceeds will repay debt and strengthen AES Gener's capital structure, general manager Ricardo Manuel Falu said in the statement. Sempra picks up 1,536 km of power transmission lines.
