Paraguay has approached the IDB for a $180m revolving credit facility to fund investments in the wastewater system in the capital Asuncion.
The four-year construction project includes building sewer systems and water treatment plants for more than 1.6m people in the city, according to the IDB.
Paraguay's public works and communications ministry MOPC has calculated that it needs to invest $450m per year to extend drinking water networks to 98% of the population and sewer services to 86% by 2030
