M&A House of the Year: Bank of America

M&A House of the Year: Bank of America

Activity in Latin America’s mergers and acquisitions space may have tapered ever so slightly in the latest reporting period. Still, for a second year in a row, Bank of America has proven its ability to top the league tables when it comes to fee collection.

BofA advised on 18 deals with Latin American involvement, according to data from Thomson Reuters, a third more than the prior year. The activity demonstrates a sea change for the bank. For much of the prior decade, BofA had not cracked the top five among M&A advisors, and in some years was not even among the top 10.

Standing out from its peers in the 2018-2019 reporting period, BofA acted as an advisor for both sellers and buyers on a host of deals, both domestic and cross-border. Its expertise spanned a broad spectrum of industries, from industrials to real estate to power and transportation to insurance and financial services. Among other high-profile transactions, BofA played a role as a joint sell-side advisor for the Suzano acquisition of Fibria, a deal that is being honored this year for Domestic M&A Deal of the Year.
