Tracking money going into and out of Latin American stock markets can be a complicated pursuit. Morningstar tracks asset flows from US open-ended funds that specialize in Latin American stocks. The picture from their data is grim, showing over $1 billion leaving such funds every year since 2009. Just $2.8 billion was left by the end of January.
EPFR offers similar data on a global level, and has become an industry benchmark, offering a broad guide to investor sentiment toward different asset classes. EPFR’s figures whipped up a storm in February, when they indicated that investors pulled over $6 billion from equity funds two weeks running.
