If pushing through reforms was the main financial theme in Mexico last year, deals hitting the market may be the dominant topic this year.
“[The reforms have] created more movement and more work to be done, so the legal market is very active and expected to boom in the next years,” says Thomas Mueller, a partner at Ritch Mueller.
The firm doesn’t plan to shift its focus dramatically, but its energy and infrastructure practice — which was previously overshadowed by the capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, banking and finance and real estate divisions — could become more important, says Carlos Obregón, managing partner.
