Citi has tapped M&A specialist Francisco Salas from UBS as an MD to cover LatAm clients. He was previously an MD at the Swiss bank, which he joined in 1996. And Jean-Marc Dreyer was appointed as a senior member of its LatAm investment banking team, focused on strategic advisory coverage in Brazil. He will focus on oil & gas and metals & mining, based in São Paulo. He was previously at BNP Paribas, where he was director and head of power and natural resources in Brazil.
Elsewhere, JPMorgan appointed former US senator and HUD secretary Mel Martínez as chairman for Florida, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. He will serve on JPMorgans executive committee
Headhunters noted an unusually brisk summer for investment banks as they continued to scrap for talent throughout the region. Salaries are being bid up, especially in Brazil, which appeared set to return to the compensation inflation of 2007.
