To the Hilt Mexico's four largest, and closely related, telecom companies owe lenders more money than any other private-sector companies in Latin America. Carso Global Telecom, a holding company owned by Carlos Slim, Latin America's richest entrepreneur, has $8.54 billion in debt. Carso owns stakes in Telmex and América Móvil, the dominant fixed-line and cell phone operators in Mexico. They carry debt loads of $7.03 and $4.11 billion respectively.
