Blejer Leaves Argentina Mario Blejer, Argentina's former central bank president, is the new director of the Centre for Central Banking Studies (CCBS) at the Bank of England. He will also act as an advisor to the British central bank's governor, Sir Edward George. Blejer left the nominally independent Argentine central bank in June after a six-month stint, during which the government defaulted on $141 billion of domestic and international debt and abandoned its 11-year convertibility regime that tied the currency to the US dollar.
