Chile’s congress has passed a bill to reform Chile’s market regulator, the SVS. The legislation seeks to strengthen the supervisor’s powers and remove it further from the political process. Among the changes proposed by the bill is the replacement of the single supervisor with a 5-member commission. The legislation, which now moves to the upper house of parliament, is part of a broader capital markets overhaul launched in Chile in 2010.
