Markets Pulled Through the Wringer

LatAm felt some pain Tuesday as one of the worst market-wide selloffs this year took hold, sending equity indices plummeting and EM fixed income and CDS spreads wider. The S&P 500 fell 1.98%, the Bovespa dropped 3.86%, and Mexico's Bolsa lost 2.20% as the CBOE's VIX, volatility index, rose to 18.55, a 10.35% leap from the previous day. In LatAm, 5-year CDS for Venezuela and Argentina widened 23bp and 28bp respectively, and currencies also took a hit. EMBI spreads for those countries also widened
