Panama and the US have signed a trade promotion agreement that will see tariffs removed on 90% of consumer and industrial exports from the US to Panama. The Central American nation already has "broad duty free-access" to the US, according to the US trade department. The trade promotion agreement is the culmination of talks that began in April 2004. The agreement will give US firms preferred access to the $5bn expansion project of the Panama Canal.
