Best Bank - Mexico - Best Investment Bank – BBVA Bancomer

It is difficult to knock BBVA Bancomer off its perch as the largest, most profitable bank in Mexico. The Spanish-owned institution continues to win top marks all around among analysts covering the sector. The success of its local investment banking business this year only adds to its strengths at a time when Mexico's credit cycle may be on an upward trajectory.

The somewhat staid nature of Mexico's banking system, which is essentially dominated by a handful of mostly foreign owned institutions, may not make it the most exciting story over the 2010-2011 period, but to be the number one bank in this sort of operating environment is an envious position to hold.
