At four o’clock on a rainy São Paulo afternoon in February, André Esteves is running late after a furious round of deal making. The star banker is beaming, energized and eager to talk.
BTG Pactual’s acquisition of Silvio Santos’ 37.94% stake in Panamericano for 450 million reais is splashed all over the national front pages. Brazil’s top dealmaker, the 41-year-old multibillionaire Esteves, has had several sleepless nights but is nonetheless courteous, focused and jovial.
“We keep a humble approach, we are simple people,” Esteves tells LatinFinance in an exclusive interview. “The dividends of this year will not make me change my car. I haven’t changed my car in the last four years, by the way,” he says with a guffaw.
