Virtue is Its Own Reward
Transparency International, the Berlin-based anti-corruption group, has unveiled its annual rankings of the world's cleanest countries. Chile is again the least corrupt country in Latin America. Transparency International ranks Chile as the 18th cleanest country in the world, just after the US. Although Chile has consistently improved over the years ? it is one of only two in Latin America to have done so ? it has not managed to move up the global rankings. It has placed in 18th position two years running. Venezuela may still be one of the most corrupt countries in Latin America, but its standing has improved steadily over the years. Like Chile, it has reduced corruption every year for the last three years. But it is still ranked a lowly 65, together with Guatemala. Brazil has cleaned up its act somewhat this year, after slipping in 2000....
