LatinFinance has compiled its second annual ranking of the 50 most powerful and influential people in Latin America and the Caribbean, spanning business, politics, government, academia and even pop culture.

Influence is like pornography – tough to define, but you know it when you see it. Simple metrics such as the size of a bank account or the share of votes won in the last election don't always reflect the sway someone can have over opinion in the region. The most powerful people in Latin America come from all walks of life- rich and poor; liberal and conservative; from Latin America and elsewhere; politicians, businessmen, writers and rock stars. But all the most influential affect the lives of people across Latin America and even around the world.
